There’s something majorly wrong with UM Motorcycles and because of that, it’s not dispatching bikes to its dealerships throughout the country. Why is that? Well, it seems UM Motorcycles didn’t do the proper future planning.
Indian Govt made it mandatory for all two-wheeler manufacturers to provide ABS (anti-lock braking system) with their products which are of 125cc or above displacement. UM Motorcycles has four bikes in the Indian market – Renegade Commando Classic, Renegade Commando Mojave, Renegade Commando and Renegade Sports S – and all of them are powered by a 279.5cc engine. But none come equipped with ABS, even now.
And it’s not that this new law was enforced overnight. All the manufacturers were given a considerable amount of time to make the required changes, which they did. For some reason, UM Motorcycles didn’t take any necessary steps to add the option of ABS in its motorcycles. As a result, it hasn’t dispatched a single motorcycle to any of its dealerships since April 2019.
On the flip side, UM Motorcycles’ dealerships continue to operate normally. We hardly see any UM running on the roads and with this kind of future planning, things will become even worse for the company. We are expecting the updated models to hit the showrooms soon. And, maybe, UM could come up with something exciting and more powerful to make it up to the customers.
