Ever since the news broke out more than a year ago about KTM working on an adventure bike based on the very famous 390 Duke, all the adventure-cum-motorcycle enthusiasts have been on the edge of their chairs waiting desperately. KTM has been extensively testing the upcoming 390 Adventure for quite some time now. However, based on the latest spy shot, it seems that the bike is in the final stages of testing.
The test mule in the picture is wearing no camouflage at all. It is mounted with KTM touring accessories. Most of the underpinnings of the 390 Adventure have been borrowed from the 390 Duke like the TFT dash with Bluetooth connectivity. We would like to see an inbuilt navigation facility as that would make more sense for an adventure motorcycle and would be considered as a premium feature.
Powering the 390 Adventure would be the same 373cc-single that is quite popular in India for its utmost brutal performance. It produces 43hp at 9500 rpm and 35 Nm of torque at 7000 rpm. KTM might play around a bit with these numbers for the adventure motorcycle to make the engine suitable for the bike’s character. Also, the engine would be BSVI compliant. As far as the transmission is concerned, it would be a 6-speed unit perhaps with different gear ratios.

To make the 390 Adventure a capable off-road machine, KTM has slapped on 21/18-inch spoke wheels. Earlier, a test mule was spotted with 19/17-inch cast wheels. Maybe there could be two variants of the bike. Irrespective of the wheel size, the tyres here are likely to be knobbier ones for that extra performance on non-tarmac surfaces.
Although the 390 Adventure is based on the 390 Duke, we wouldn’t be surprised if it looked very similar to the 790 Adventure. It’s being expected from KTM to present its baby adventure bike at the EICMA in November. Let’s see when it gets launched in the country.
