Jawa recently launched its brand-new bobber-styled Perak in India at Rs 1.92 lakh (ex-showroom). After Jawa Standard and Jawa 42, the Perak is Jawa’s third product in the country and the most powerful of all – BS 6-compliant 334cc with 30 bhp and 31 Nm. The latest reports suggest that soon Jawa would use Perak’s engine in its other two motorcycles.
Both the Jawa Standard and Jawa 42 are powered by a BS 4 engine and with the BS 6 implementation date coming closer, Jawa has to make these two bikes BS 6 compliant if it wishes to sell them post 1st April 2020.
Perak’s engine is already BS 6 compliant and using it in the Jawa Standard and Jawa 42 would save the company various costs like manufacturing, homologation, etc. Also, the bigger and more powerful engine would attract more buyers.
The current Jawa Standard and Jawa 42 models are powered by the same 293cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 27 bhp and 28 Nm. With the new Perak’s engine, these bikes would get a power and torque bump of 3 units each.
Jawa has not released any official statement confirming the aforementioned report. In fact, it could also be possible that Jawa would make the Standard and 42 BS 6 compliant by working on their 293cc engine and sell it alongside their more powerful variants with Perak’s engine.
