BMW updates its S1000XR for 2020 model year and showcases it at the EICMA 2019. The new bike has been given a series of updates that make it a more touring-friendly motorcycle.
2020 BMW S1000XR gets the same 999c, inline 4-cylinder that BMW uses in its 2019 S1000RR. This litre-class engine produces 162 bhp at 11000 rpm and 114 Nm at 9250 rpm and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Talking about the gearbox, BMW says that it has increased the gear ratios of the 4th, 5th, and 6th gear to help in long-distance and high speed touring.
Another advantage that the new 2020 S1000XR has received thanks to its new engine is a weight reduction of 5 kg! And that’s not it, BMW also used a lighter swingarm, chassis, and suspension setup to further lose 5 more kg. This means that the new 2020 BMW S1000XR is a well 10 kg lighter than its predecessor!
BMW also gave the new S1000XR a big 6.5-in fully colour TFT dash. And when it comes to the riding aids, the new S1000XR gets drag torque control, four riding modes, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), wheelie control, ABS Pro, Hill Start Control and HP Shift Assistant Pro (for quick up and down shifting).
BMW also tweaked the way the S1000XR looks. Not by much, but it does look sharper and more aggressive. It also receives two new colour schemes – ‘Ice Grey’ and ‘Racing Red/White Aluminum’ – the latter comes at an extra cost.
We are quite optimistic about BMW bringing the new S1000XR to India after it launches it globally. We don’t have a time frame yet but we think it would happen perhaps in the mid of 2020. Regarding the price, the 2020 S1000XR would definitely come at a premium of what BMW is asking for the current model, i.e., Rs 17.65 lakh (ex-showroom).
