The Ola electric scooter has been teased ahead of its launch. Ola has been working on developing and building this electric scooter for a while now and recently started construction of its production plant too. Now, the company has released a teaser image of this upcoming scooter.
Ola is a well-known brand in the Indian market. The company is known as a cab aggregator and has positioned itself as the best in the business. The top-level executives at the company though knew that it had to be future-ready as well. Hence, the company set out on an electric vehicle quest.
After announcing that it would be producing a mass-production electric scooter in the Indian market, Ola acquired Etergo — an EV startup based in the Netherlands. Etergo was founded in 2014 and started the development of the AppScooter. By 2016, the prototype of the AppScooter was complete and tested. It is touted to be a smart scooter with advanced technology.
The company also claims that it has a range of around 240 kilometres on a single charge. Ola acquired the Etergo brand in May 2020, and this teaser revealed by the brand goes to show that the Ola electric scooter is nothing but the AppScooter.
Recent reports revealed that Ola had started construction of its 500-acre EV megafactory in Tamil Nadu, which the company claims will be the largest scooter factory in India once completed. It has an annual capacity of over 10 million units, and most of these might be allotted for export to other countries. Other than India, Europe is expected to be the biggest market for the Ola electric scooter.
On Indian soil though, it will compete with the Ather 450X. The Ola electric scooter is expected to be launched in India later this year and more details are expected to come out over the next few months.
