Honda CB500X India launch in April 2021: Here are all the details

The Honda CB500X is all set to be launched in the Indian market. The launch of the Honda CB500X might happen sooner than we expected as reports claim that Honda will launch the ADV tourer in April 2021. With the launch of the CB500X, Honda’s much-awaited 500cc platform will debut in India.

The launch of Honda’s 500cc platform has been a long-expected one in the Indian market. It consists of the CB500R, CB500F, and CB500X. The CB500R is a fully faired sports tourer, while the CB500F is a naked/streetfighter and the CB500X is an Adventure tourer.

Given the increase in popularity of the Adventure motorcycling segment in India, we did expect that the CB500X will be the bestseller among the three motorcycles in India. Well, it does seem like Honda is anticipating the same too, as the launch of the mid-weight adventure tourer has been confirmed to take place in April this year.

The exact date for the launch of the motorcycle hasn’t been revealed yet, but we do expect Honda to make an announcement regarding the same very soon. In terms of styling, it carries Honda’s signature design traits. It gets a fixed position headlamp like other premium adventure motorcycles.

The handlebar is raised and upright while ground clearance has been given utmost priority. The Honda CB500X is powered by a liquid-cooled, 472cc, parallel-twin engine with a maximum power output of 48bhp and a peak torque output of 43Nm. A 6-speed gearbox drives the rear wheel via a slip and assist clutch.

Suspension duties are handled by a telescopic fork up front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking is taken care of by a 310mm petal disc and a two-piston caliper up front while a 240mm petal disc and a single-piston caliper does duty at the rear. Dual-channel ABS is offered as standard equipment.

In terms of features, the Honda CB500X comes with what can be considered the bare basics at this price point. A negative backlit LCD takes care of instrumentation and it gets LED lighting all around.

In the Indian market, the Honda CB500X will compete directly with the Benelli TRK 502. However, Honda has the greater advantage here thanks to a wider dealership and service network. The Honda CB500X is expected to be priced at around the Rs 5.5 – 6 lakh mark, which puts it right in between the KTM 390 Adventure and the Kawasaki Versys 650. 

This should make for an interesting competition. The Honda CB500F and CB500R are also expected to be launched in India towards the end of this year or early next year.
