Hero MotoCorp appoints 11 Harley-Davidson dealers in India; creates new business vertical

Hero MotoCorp has appointed 11 new dealers for Harley-Davidson in India. The company has also created a new business unit dedicated to the sales and service of Harley-Davidson motorcycles in India. Dispatches of motorcycles to the dealers have already commenced, starting January 18, 2021.

Harley-Davidson infamously pulled out of the Indian market in 2020 as a part of its new strategy being implemented across the globe. The brand pulled out of markets that were not turning a profit and India was one among them. However, Harley-Davidson had a plan to keep going in the Indian market — entering a partnership with Hero MotoCorp.

As part of the partnership agreement, Hero MotoCorp would take charge of the sales and service of Harley-Davidson’s motorcycles in India. This was a relief for existing Harley-Davidson owners in the Indian market. Also, those looking to buy new HD motorcycles now have a channel to do so.

Now, Hero MotoCorp has announced that it has appointed 11 dealers in India and set up a new business unit. The new business unit will be headed by Ravi Avalur. Ravi Avalur has lots of experience in the premium automotive sector previously having been the Head of Strategy and International Business at Cooper which is an engine and engine component manufacturer.

He was also the Managing Director of Ducati India. He will now head Harley-Davidson India under Hero MotoCorp and will report directly to Mr Pawan Munjal, the Chairman and CEO of Hero MotoCorp. The new business unit also includes four executives from Harley-Davidson India’s past operations in the country.

The 11 dealers appointed by Hero MotoCorp are already existing ones. New dealers are expected to be appointed in the future as Hero MotoCorp looks to expand operations of the new business unit. The 11 dealers currently appointed are:
