Bajaj has launched the 2021 Platina 100 ES (Electric Start) in the Indian market. Priced at Rs 53,920, the 2021 Bajaj Platina 100 ES retains the title of the most-affordable motorcycle with an electric start. It also continues offering excellent fuel-efficiency figures.
The Bajaj Platina 100 was first launched in 2006 as a bare-basics commuter with extraordinarily high fuel efficiency figures. Bajaj claimed that the Platina 100 returns a fuel efficiency of around 106km/l. This was previously unheard of at the time and did the trick. Bajaj sold more than 5 lakh units of the Platina within just 8 months of its launch.
Over the years, the company has offered several updates and launched new variants of the Platina. Bajaj has now announced the launch of the 2021 Platina 100 ES. It is the entry-level variant in the Platina range and comes with the bare basics.
It features a halogen bulb-powered headlamp with LED DRLs, a single-piece seat with more cushioning for added comfort, spring-in-spring shocks at the rear for better shock absorption, tubeless tyres, and redesigned rearview mirrors. The motorcycle is available in two colour options — Cocktail Wine Red & Ebony Black with Silver graphics and decals.
Powering the 2021 Bajaj Platina 100 ES is the same air-cooled, 102cc, single-cylinder engine with a maximum power output of 7.7bhp at 7,500rpm and a peak torque output of 8.3Nm at 5,500rpm. A 4-speed gearbox drives the rear wheel.
Braking is handled by either a 130mm drum or a 240mm disc brake up front and a 110mm drum brake at the rear. The twin shocks at the rear and the telescopic suspension at the front get up to 20 percent longer travel when compared to other motorcycles in the segment. Bookings and deliveries of the motorcycle have already commenced across India.
