Suzuki Motorcycle Corporation has launched the 2020 Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250 in the Japanese market. These motorcycles are manufactured by Suzuki Motorcycle India and then exported to Japan.
The naked Suzuki Gixxer 250 has been priced at 448,800 yen (Rs 3.07 lakh) while the full-faired Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 has been priced at 481,800 yen (Rs 3.30 lakh). The Japanese therefore will pay nearly twice as much for the motorcycles, as we do in India.
This should be because of the additional import taxes that the Japanese government levies on all vehicular imports. Other than the price, there is no major difference between the motorcycles for the Indian market or the Japanese market.
The Suzuki Gixxer 250 is a naked, street motorcycle that only comes with a bikini fairing for the fuel tank. The Gixxer 250 SF, on the other hand, is a fully faired motorcycle. Underneath though, both motorcycles are exactly the same. Both motorcycles ride on the same chassis and are powered by the same engines.
An oil-cooled, 249cc, single-cylinder engine with a maximum power output of 25.4bhp and a peak torque output of 22Nm drives the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox. Suspension duties are handled by a conventional 41mm fork up front and an adjustable monoshock at the rear.
A 300mm disc up front and a 220mm disc at the rear handle braking duties. Despite the pricing sounding too high for us, it is still pretty competitive in the Japanese market.
