The Ducati Multistrada V4 has become the world’s first motorcycle to use intelligent radar technology. Ducati released images of the front-end of the motorcycle, giving us a small glimpse of the design and a full view of the new radar sensor located below the headlamp unit. The Ducati Multistrada V4 has been in the making for a long time now.
We have seen spy images, spy videos, leaked photographs and leaked technical details of the motorcycle over the last few months. However Ducati hasn’t launched or revealed the motorcycle completely yet. It only seems like the Italian motorcycle manufacturer is teasing the thousands of people waiting for the Multistrada V4’s launch. Well, Ducati isn’t quite done with teasing us, yet.
Ducati recently revealed just the front-end of the Multistrada V4, and this wasn’t to showcase the design of the motorcycle, but to reveal the intelligent radar technology. Ducati has now become the first motorcycle manufacturer in the world to implement intelligent radar technology on one of its production motorcycles.
Radar technology is expected to make motorcycling much safer and more comfortable as well. Cars and some trucks and buses too have been using radar technology for a long time now. However, until recently, the motorcycle industry didn’t show much interest in this tech. Apart from Ducati, KTM and Kawasaki are two other manufacturers known to be developing radar technology.
Ducati however has managed to become the first among them to develop and implement the technology in a production motorcycle. This radar technology might just be the biggest advance we have seen in terms of motorcycle safety in recent times. This was developed in partnership with Bosch and will in the long term prove to be a great asset in keeping motorcycle riders safe.
The Ducati Multistrada V4 will feature radar sensors at the front and rear. With these sensors scanning a 180-degree radius each, the onboard computers essentially have a 360-degree vision. This will help alert the rider if the system thinks the motorcycle is in the blind spot of a larger vehicle.
The radar sensor in the front of the motorcycle has yet another job of handling the cruise control feature. It will continuously scan the road ahead and the vehicles on it, feeding the system with information about what is ahead and automatically slowing the motorcycle down if necessary.
This radar system has now debuted on the upcoming Multistrada V4 and will soon be seen on other manufacturers’ flagship ADV tourers as well. Eventually though, like all technologies, radar technology will also filter down to entry-level performance motorcycles and this is why Ducati revealing this technology on a production bike is a big deal.
