The Aprilia Tuono 660’s production version has been leaked. Leaked patent images have revealed the all-new Aprilia Tuono 660 in its production guise. This is the very first look at the production motorcycle and it is impressive indeed.
Aprilia is quite evidently betting big on the mid-weight motorcycle segment. The all-new 660 platform and engine were introduced in 2019 when Aprilia showcased the RS 660 and Tuono 660 concepts.
A while after, we saw the production variant of the RS 660 and then spy images of the motorcycle on test started flooding the internet. As of now, the Aprilia RS 660 is closer to hitting the production line than ever before. However, there was no sign of the Tuono 660, until now.
Aprilia follows a simple method of developing sports bikes. The Italian manufacturer spawns a fully-faired supersport and a street fighter/naked bike from the same platform. We have seen this method with the Aprilia RSV4 and Tuono V4.
Both of them are exceptionally brilliant motorcycles with a sorted chassis, top-shelf components and truck-loads of electronics. The same formula being applied to a mid-weight motorcycle excites the motorcyclist within us.
Patent images of the Aprilia Tuono 660 show a front fascia similar to the RS 660. It uses the same LED headlamps with LED DRLs. However, the large, sharp fairing has been replaced by a small curvaceous bikini fairing. At the bottom is a cowling that houses the underbelly exhaust. It sports a rather simple, sharp, and minimalistic rear-end.
Powering the Aprilia Tuono 660 is the same parallel-twin engine as the RS 660. The liquid-cooled, 660cc engine reportedly has a maximum power output of 95bhp, which is around 5bhp lower than the RS 660. A 6-speed gearbox drives the rear wheel.
The Aprilia Tuono 660 will be equipped with the best in terms of motorcycle electronic wizardry. It comes with five riding modes, traction control, wheelie control, cornering ABS, engine brake control, and a new colour TFT screen as well.
Going by the rapid growth of the mid-weight segment in India, it should be hard for Aprilia to resist bringing in the RS 660 and Tuono 660 here. If launched in India, these motorcycles will still cost a lot as they will be brought in as completely built units.
