The all-new Honda CBR600RR has been revealed through a teaser video. The all-new motorcycle will mark Honda’s return to the 600cc supersport segment, and will also mark the rebirth of what is simply one of the favourite 600cc motorcycles of all time. We expect the motorcycle to be launched shortly.

Honda infamously pulled out of the 600cc supersport segment back in 2017 by abruptly discontinuing the CBR600RR. Yes, it soon came up with the CBR650, but nothing came close to the CBR600RR’s sporty riding position and the screeching, high-revving engine.
Back then, Honda discontinued the CBR600RR because of stricter emissions regulations and also due to the decline of the mid-weight supersport segment. Well, things have changed since then. The mid-weight supersport segment has been receiving a lot of interest as well an increase in the number of buyers.
Adding to this is the fact that Kawasaki launched the new Ninja ZX-6R, Yamaha launched the new YZF-R6 and even Aprilia revealed the RS 660. Well, Honda had to do something about this, and they have.
Since the beginning of 2020, there have been rumours and various artist sketches and renditions of the new CBR600RR. Now, Honda has released this teaser video and put an end to these rumours once and for all.
The new Honda CBR600RR is quite a machine to look at in terms of design. It has drawn a lot of inspiration from the flagship CBR1000RR-R and SP motorcycle that were launched in several international markets recently. It has sleek twin LED headlamps up front and an aggressive fairing complete with small winglets.
At the rear is a signature underseat exhaust system that is symbolic of the older generations of the motorcycle. The all-new Honda CBR600RR is equipped with the best in terms of technology and electronics. It comes with a TFT display for instrumentation and a host of electronic riding aids.
Selectable riding modes, cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, etc, will be available as standard features with the supersport. In terms of the engine powering the motorcycle, Honda will leave no stone unturned to provide its riders with the best experience.
The video clearly shows that the engine is capable of revving to a dizzying 17,000rpm. The peak power figures should come in at around 15,000rpm. The engine is a liquid-cooled, 599cc, inline-four with a power output in the range of around 116bhp.
It will also be compliant with the stringent Euro 5 emissions norms expected to be implemented in 2021. All put together, this is one motorcycle to watch out for. Given the state of the 600cc supersport segment in India, we’re not too sure at the moment if it will be launched here.
At the moment, Kawasaki is the only one in the segment, fielding the Ninja ZX-6R. However, Aprilia is expected to ride in the RS 660 too. So, fingers are crossed for Honda to also notice the potential of the segment in India. The global unveil of the motorcycle is set to take place on 21 August, 2020.
