2020 BMW G 310 R & G 310 GS launched in India: Prices reduced by upto Rs 65,000!

The 2020 BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS have been launched in the Indian market. The new BS6 guise of the BMW 310 twins have been launched at a significantly lower price than the old BS4 models and this just made them more interesting than ever before.

The BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS are the results of BMW Motorrad’s partnership with TVS Motor Company. Development of the motorcycles were done in Europe, but they are produced by TVS at its Hosur facility. The BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS were launched in August 2018 and they impressed us with their dynamics. However, their biggest let-down was the price tag they came with.

At Rs 3 lakh for the G 310 R and Rs 3.49 lakh for the G 310 GS, they were expensive and out of reach for many.  Stiff competition and aggressive pricing from competitors like KTM further brought sales of the entry-level BMWs down. The arrival of BS6 emission norms forced BMW to pull the plug on the BS4 310 twins. Now though, they are back with a bang in BS6 guise.

BMW G 310 R

The BMW G 310 R is the least expensive motorcycle in BMW Motorrad’s line-up. It is a naked streetfighter that tends to put a smile on the riders face with its nimble handling and rev-happy engine. Its small footprint also makes it agile in urban settings and its riders love it for that. The BMW G 310 R has now been updated.

In terms of design, it remains the same, but it comes with new colour options. The 2020 BMW G 310 R is available in three colour schemes. Blue and White, and Black and White are two of them. The third one though is special, and the most attractive one too. It is called ‘Style Sport’ and comprises Black, White and Red.

The motorcycle now features an LED headlamp with LED DRLs, super-stylish LED turn signal indicators, adjustable clutch and brake levers and a new finish on the engine case. The new BMW G 310 R is powered by the same liquid-cooled, 313cc, single-cylinder engine as before. It has a maximum power output of 34bhp at 9,500rpm and a peak torque output of 28Nm at 7,500rpm. This engine is now BS6 emissions norms compliant.

BMW G 310 GS

This is the entry-level adventure motorcycle from BMW Motorrad. It bears the legendary GS badge, and is a great tourer. It was intended to bring the GS spirit of adventure and off-road ability to the masses and yet, it didn’t really reach the masses in its BS4 guise thanks to its steep Rs 3.49 lakh price tag.

Now though, BMW has got that bit right and launched it at Rs 2.85 lakh, which is around Rs 64,000 lower and that is quite a significant reduction in prices. In terms of design and styling, it remains similar to the old model.

However, it is available in a new colour called ‘Style Rallye’ which comprises a Black paint job with Red and Blue decals and graphics. It is also available in a special ‘40 Years GS’ paint scheme that pays tribute to the legendary BMW R 100 GS.

The 2020 BMW G 310 GS features an LED headlamp, LED indicators, ride-by-wire, adjustable clutch and brake levers, etc. The 2020 BMW G 310 GS is powered by the same liquid-cooled, 313cc, single cylinder engine with a maximum power output of 34bhp at 9,500rpm and a peak torque output of 28Nm at 7,500rpm.

BMW claims to have reduced vibrations on the new motorcycle and this is something that we will verify once we have ridden the new bikes. The 2020 BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS are now available at your nearest BMW dealership.
