Around 3 years ago, the joint venture of BMW Motorrad and TVS came into existence. The objective of this union was to develop and provide smaller displacement motorcycles for emerging markets. So, after 3 years of research and development, the first product, the BMW G310R, as a result of this joint venture is close to its launch. We can say this because the new BMW G310R has been spotted testing on Indian roads. In the recent past, BMW has released a video about its new G310R. The bike has been caught testing abroad as well. And this time, it was being tested in our country.
Powering the new BMW G310R will be a 313cc, single cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that has been harmonised to produce a max power figure of 34 bhp at 9,500 rpm and the peak torque generated by it will be 28 Nm at 7,500 rpm. This engine is a completely new unit and BMW has high expectations from it. The new BMW G310R also has DOHC setup and of course, a fuel injection unit. BMW has kept performance as its top priority while developing this engine but it doesn’t mean that the fuel efficiency (which matters a lot in our domestic market) has been left out of the equation. Other features of the new BMW G310R include ABS as standard, USD front forks, mono-shock at the rear, and Michelin tyres for the extra grip.
It was the KTM Duke 390 that started the trend of 400cc performance motorcycles in India. But with the competition warming up, more manufacturers are entering this segment and this should make the Duke 390 a bit insecure. The new BMW G310R will compete against KTM Duke 390, KTM RC 390, Yamaha R3 and Kawasaki Ninja 300. We are expecting BMW to launch the new G310R in October this year.
