Yamaha MT-15

Yamaha MT-15 spotted testingYamaha has been very aggressive with the MT series over the past few years. From the bigger MT motorcycles they have moved on now to the lower capacity segment with the MT-03/MT-25 and the MT-125. And now we have photographs of what looks like a new Yamaha MT-15 that is just around the corner. Yamaha have confirmed a launch at the EICMA but as usual have not said any word on which motorcycle. There is also a video online that again teases with the line ” Dark Side of Japan”. The same line was used earlier when the Yamaha MT-03/ MT-25 was launched.

From the photographs of the Yamaha MT-15 that we here, it is clear that this new motorcycles is a direct derivative of the Yamaha R15. The engine and the silencer being the easiest giveaway. The keen observer will also spot the deltabox swingarm that also has been carried forward.

Styling wise though there seems to be a lot that has changed. The Yamaha MT-15 looks like a proper street fighter now. An aggressive looking front headlight is accompanied by gold coloured upside down forks at the front. Huge, sharp, tank fins that extend a long way towards the wheel take focus off the rather small looking tank. But overall the new MT-15 looks very aggressive. The tail section is also revised and the LED brake lights take a rectangular shape. Overall the motorcycle looks quite compact and deserving of the MT tag.

Now will this motorcycle come to India? Well, the Indonesian market is where all the fun happens in the 150-300 cc category. That market usually sees the launch first, especially from the big 3 Japanese manufacturers who all have manufacturing units there. With the Yamaha R15 already available here in India, it would not be too difficult to make the Yamaha MT-15 here in India as well. But in general the Indian market was not really a fan of the naked bike until the KTM‘s came along with their aggressive package. So, yes, there is a possibility that we can expect to see this motorcycle launched in India sometime next year. We are just a few days away from the global unveiling and we will bring you all the action from the EICMA as it happens. Also thanks to TMCBlog for the images.
