Yamaha have finally joined the 250cc party. They took their sweet time, but the recently unveiled/launched (in Indonesia) Yamaha YZF-R25 seems to have hit all the right buttons. While we still wait for more information on when the Yamaha YZF-R25 will be launched in India, lets properly dissect this 250 that we have been waiting so long for. Lets get the regulars out of the way. The Yamaha YZF-R25 will come in three colour options, Predator Black, Diablo Red and the characteristic Racing Blue. It weighs 166 kg (kerb) and comes with a 14 litre tank. The Yamaha YZF-R25 price at the Indonesian launch was pegged at 53 million rupiah (Jakarta retail price) which according to today’s conversion rates translates to 2.7 lakh INR. Now this pretty much could be the ex-showroom price at which we could see the R25 in India.
The 249cc twin cylinder, 8 valve DOHC on the Yamaha YZF-R25 produces 26.5kW (36.0PS) at a very high 12,000 RPM (wow!), but the number that disappoints a tad is the torque figure, which lies at 22.6 Nm at 10,000 RPM. Mind you, 22.6 is not a bad number at all but the fact that all of it comes at a high 10,000 RPM signals a motorcycle that could be a difficult prospect in city riding conditions, something that would require constant gear changes. No mention of the gear rations yet, lets just hope we have some tall gearing in the first few clogs.
Yamaha are promoting the Yamaha YZF-R25 as a superbike that you can ride everyday. The combination of Diamond frame and compact engine design, the front suspension combined with the inner tube diameter of 41 mm, rear suspension type monocross, asymmetric rear long arm, mid-ship muffler as the center of gravity contribute with a perfect weight distribution of 50:50. The speedometer comes equipped with shift timing indicator light, gear position, fuel consumption indicator, changing oil indicator, trip meter, FI diagnostic, engine temperature, and a timer. Visually, it has a aggressive yet classy look with the twin 55w headlights, a small air duct in the middle, tapered rear with LED type lights, multi-layer fairing and the aluminum alloy all ooze class. Its not all good news though, we are surprised that ABS takes a miss, at least as an option. But lets remain positive, the Yamaha YZF-R25 is finally here and now its just a matter of few months before this baby R1 is launched in India. Check out the specifications below. But before we wind up we leave you with a little speculation. If you remember there was a R3 trademarked as well, now is that the one for India? A 300cc single?
