The BMW R NineT will now be available in India as a CBU import at a price of of Rs. 23.5 lakhs ex-showroom Mumbai. This cafe racer themed motorcycle, basically a 90th anniversary edition of the very existence of BMW Motorrad, is quite pleasing to the eye and packs a punch. It comes with a 1170cc boxer engine that juts out significantly giving the motorcycle a very raw and mean stature complimenting the cafe racer styling. This boxer engine produces 112 PS of power and 119 Nm of torque. Weighing close to 222 kgs, BMW claims the BMW R NineT can reach a top whack of 220 kmph, with the 0 – 100 coming in at 3.6 seconds.
The crazy part in all this is still the pricing, the BMW R NineT costs just a tad bit above 9 lakhs in the US. Its high time BMW Motorrad made its presence felt in India in a more positive way. Currently there is no “BMW Motorrad” in India and the bikes we get are courtesy of the importer, basically the current BMW car dealerships. Hence the exorbitant and way more than double prices. At a time when manufacturers are aggressively homologating and moving production to India, to tap into our huge motorcycling market, its sad to see BMW not taking a more serious approach. Current hopes are to see some fruits from the TVS – BMW partnership. Hopefully some good news will come from that team up soon.
