Hero MotoCorp the country’s top motorcycle manufacturer has finally lived up to its title. With the unveiling of the HX250R, Hero MotoCorp joins an elite and growing group of companies to have a 250cc offering. The company finally has the attention of the enthusiasts, something they has lost ever since they fiddled around with the original Karizma.
The HX250R from Hero MotoCorp features a 249cc four stroke single cylinder, liquid cooled engine that produces 30.5 HP @ 9000 RPM and that’s not even the best part. The kerb weight of the HX250R is just 139 kgs! What that means is that the the HX250R in a ready to ride condition with a full tank of petrol weighs just as much as a Duke 200. That is some serious power to weight ratio. Hero MotoCorp claims that the 0-60 kmph time is just 2.7 seconds, sadly they did not mention a 0 -100 and a top speed, but for sure it’s leaving the CBR250R far behind. The HX250R also features optional combined ABS. Even though the bike looks sporty the seating position is actually quite relaxed. The handle bars are higher than in a typical low set sport bike position. The suspension also has the give for a reasonably comfortable ride. Another first is the under seat exhaust in an Indian motorcycle. Braking is handled by 300 mm 3 piston Brembo at the front and a 220 mm single piston Brembo at the rear. There has been no mention on the price of the HX205R yet, our guess is that it would be in the 2 – 2.2 lakh range, anything below that and its a steal and anything above that is a steep ask. Expect to see the bike hit showrooms first week of April.
