2014 Yamaha MT-07 announced at EICMA

No big launches were expected from Yamaha at the EICMA, but Yamaha sure pulled out a beauty from its bag of tricks. After recently launching the Yamaha MT-09 (a.k.a. FZ-09), nobody really expected this twin from the manufacturer. What’s more interesting is that this does not feature the triple engine from the MT-09 but instead a parallel twin. A configuration that could trickle down to lower sub 500 cc bikes from Yamaha in the future. The MT-07 is essentially a bare minimum design and weighs 179 kgs wet. Engine outputs lie at 74 HP of power and 67.7 Nm of torque. The engine benefits from the ‘crossplane philosophy’ which enables it to develop linear torque for outstanding acceleration. And the MT-07 is also equipped with a compact and lightweight chassis for remarkable agility and easy handling. Key design elements include a mass forward look with an upright riding position. There’s also the signature ‘Z-shape’ — formed by the air intake-style scoops and the short exhaust header pipes — confirming its strong MT heritage. This new MT is designed to deliver high agility together with exciting torque, as well as an enjoyable riding character, for a very affordable price.
