2014 KTM 1290 Super Duke R unveiled

The wait for the 2014 KTM 1290 Super Duke R is over and if you thought the wait was agonizing wait till you hear the specifications. 180 HP in a bike that weighs 189 kgs with the peak power coming at 8,870 RPM and a torque of 144 Nm, and almost 100 Nm of that coming in as low as 2500 RPM. What all this means is that you have a bike shooting past the 200 kmph mark in just 7.2 seconds. KTM sure knows how to make you lust for something. If the 990 made you wish for a stronger gut, the 1290 surely will make you sweat adrenaline. As if all this was not enough the 1290 Super Duke R as expected comes loaded with an electronics package that adds to the mixture ride by wire, traction control, ABS and a whole lot of other electronic wizardry. Braking power comes from twin 320 mm Brembo disc’s at the front. The chassis is a chrome-molybdenum tubular space frame with a single-sided swing-arm. All that power in a riding stance that will keep you almost stress free (except for your pounding heart) is surely KTM’s way of saying some strong words to its competition.
