Marc Márquez and the bike with which he will fight for the 2012 Moto2 title were officially presented today. In an event celebrated in Barcelona, the rider from Cervera (Lleida) showed off the exciting bike/rider package supported by Repsol for another year. The 2010 125cc World Champion and Moto2 runner-up in 2011 is eyeing up the intermediate category title in 2012. This is his fifth year in grand prix racing and Márquez continues to grow as one of the standouts in the sport and for Repsol.
After winning the highest number of Grands Prix last season –seven– and fighting for the title right up to the final race, only an unfortunate crash at the Malaysian circuit of Sepang could halt his championship push in year one of his time in Moto2. Backed by Repsol and the same team as in 2011, Marc Márquez is looking to keep up the tremendous form shown last year –which included one of the most spectacular fightbacks in history.
Marc Márquez and Repsol will continue a long standing alliance, which began when the young Spaniard was competing in preparatory categories and continued when a 15 year-old Márquez made his 125cc debut in 2008. Repsol has more than 40 years of experience at the highest level of competition and will this year be present in the MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 categories. Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa will be riding in the premier class and the Australian defending the world title. Maverick Viñales, Miguel Oliveira and Ãlex Rins make up the Moto3 lineup with a big chance to make their mark on the class and grow as riders. Repsol is also backing young riders in the Spanish Championship, with Ãlex Márquez, MarÃa Herrera, Francesco Bagnaia and Lorenzo Baldassarri their lineup in the series.
After completing the final tests of the preseason and feeling completely recovered from the crash which prevented him from riding for nearly five months, Marc Márquez is ready to go in 2012. The next stop is Qatar on April 8th for the first round of the World Championship season.
