BMW, which entered the Indian market early 2011 with as many as six models in the two-wheeler segment, plans to launch sub 1000-cc bikes by January. Mr Sharad Kachalia Managing Director of of Navnit Motors confirmed the news at a press conference in Mumbai.

With a sales target of about 50 motorcycles set for the first year, BMW have done pretty well to have sold about 39 of its exorbitantly priced models in India. With models costing upwards of 20 lakhs they sure are demanding a good price for these German beauties. The BMW motorcycles that are sold here in India are shipped as completely built machines from Berlin, and sold through the tie-up with Navnit Motors.

India a country of truly great variety found many buyers for the BMW models namely the S1000 RR, R1200 GS, the K1600GTL. The BMW G650GS SERTÃO was launched just couple of days back internationally and would make a good package for India, provided its priced right. With the other 650’s in the market costing sub 6 lakhs, BMW should definitely have a look at the CKD route if they want in, on the 650 market. Other probable models include the Enduro types namely the BMW G 450 X, BMW G 650 GS, BMW F 650 GS and the BMW F 800 GS, the touring BMW F 800 ST and the urban BMW F 800 R.
