River, an electric vehicle startup based in Bengaluru, has launched its latest product, Indie, which is being touted as the SUV of scooters. With a unique and revolutionary design, Indie offers several features that have never been seen before in a scooter, expanding the ways in which it can be used. The scooter is the brainchild of the River R&D facility in Bengaluru and will be manufactured at the company’s factory located on the outskirts of the city. Indie is priced at Rs. 1,25,000/- (ex-showroom Bengaluru), and pre-orders are open on the River website, with deliveries starting in August 2023.

According to Aravind Mani, the Co-Founder and CEO of River, the company’s mission is to improve people’s day-to-day lives through a design-first approach, and Indie is a bold statement that combines utility and lifestyle. The scooter features 14-inch wheels, the first of their kind in any electric scooter being sold in India, which provide a commanding riding position and great maneuverability on a variety of road conditions. With the largest storage capacity in any scooter, Indie boasts a massive 43L under the seat storage and a 12L front glove box, as well as exclusive Lock & Load pannier-stays on the sides that offer customization options for different purposes. The scooter’s signature twin beam headlamps and unique tail lamp design give it a distinct look while ensuring maximum visibility on the road. The ergonomic design of the riding position accommodates individuals of different heights, while the longest and widest seat in the segment ensures uncompromising comfort.
Indie also features twin rear hydraulic suspension and telescopic front suspension, providing supreme comfort, and a powerful motor with a peak power of 6.7 kW that can take the scooter to a top speed of 90 kmph. The rider can seamlessly switch between three ride modes – Eco, Ride, and Rush. The 4 kWh battery provides a real-world range of 120 km and can be charged to 80% in 5 hours with a standard charger. The scooter’s high contrast color display offers great visibility even on a sunny day, and the two USB charging ports and reverse parking assist feature add to its convenience.
