From a blank sheet, Honda and HRC development engineers set to work to create a new inline four-cylinder engine for the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade. It is a compact short-stroke configuration – sharing the diameter and stroke of the RC213V – and incorporates a semi-cascading gear train, finger-follower rocker arms, titanium cranks, internal friction reduction technologies the RC213V-S, piston pumps with ball shut-off valve system and a bypass passage integrated in the bottom part of the cylinder’s water jacket.
A forced air conductor in the front fairing directly feeds the airbox through the steering pipe. The elbows of the 4-2-1 exhaust are oval and the final silencer has been developed in collaboration with Akrapovic.
The result? The CBR1000RR-R engine delivers 113 Nm @ 12,500 rpm and has a maximum power of 217.5 HP @ 14,500 rpm.

The Throttle By Wire (Electronic Accelerator) has been revised to improve feel and, with three default driving modes, incorporates options to change Power, Motor Brake, Wheelie Control and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) optimized The electronic package also now includes an adjustable Start Mode.
An all-new, diamond-type aluminum frame uses the rear of the engine as the upper anchor of the shock absorber; The swingarm is longer and is based on the design of the RC213V-S. The rigidity balance, weight distribution and steering geometry have been meticulously adjusted, to manage increased engine delivery, in terms of front and rear grip levels and touch levels on both trains.
The 43mm Showa Big Piston Fork (BPF) fork is complemented by a lightweight Showa Balance Free Rear Cushion Light (BFRC-L) rear shock. The front brake discs are larger in diameter and work with new four-piston Nissin calipers, while the ABS is adjustable for circuit piloting. The rear tire now measures 200/55-ZR17.
A six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) performs a precise 3D estimation of the behavior in progress and provides signals to manage all electronic systems. It also controls the new 3-level Honda Electronic Steering Damper (HESD), connecting rod type.
The Honda MotoGP RC213V machine has lent part of its extraordinary aerodynamics to the CBR1000RR-R, including ailerons to increase downward force and improve braking stability. The pilot position is also much more compact.
The fully customizable 5-inch TFT display offers very intuitive control operated by a simplified four-way switch on the left handlebar. Honda’s Smart Key proximity key system adds functionality.
Just one thing left to say then, Honda has invited itself back to the SBK party and how!
