Fresh on the heels of launching the 2017 KTM RC 390 and RC 200, KTM has confirmed working on an adventure motorcycle the KTM 390 Adventure. KTM confirmed that the 390 and 200 Duke would also receive updates for 2017 and also announced the upcoming 390 Adventure which is likely to be launched at the EICMA show in 2017.
Though the supposed KTM 390 Adventure has been caught testing, KTM have not confirmed the specifications of the motorcycle. However, the only things that are certain are that it will use the same 375cc motor that currently powers the RC 390 and Duke 390, use WP suspension components and ditch the trademark orange alloys for spoke wheels. Other goodies that maybe included are the ride-by-wire throttle, full-colour digital console and the existing ABS system tweaked for off road use.
While enthusiasts had long been clamouring for an adventure version of the Duke 390 and Duke 200, KTM have clearly deemed 2017 as the right time to launch it. The adventure and dual-sport segment is very nascent in India, but holds enormous potential for the company that gets into the segment with the right offering. Given KTM’s track record, they are likely to kick the doors in with a superb package in the form of the 390 Adventure.
The 390 Adventure will be manufactured at KTM’s facility in Pune and exported abroad. Expect the launch in India to be much later that the European launch. KTM are sure to price it very competitively for the price-sensitive Indian Market. We can only hope that ADV motorcycles take off in a big way in India.
