The much awaited BMW G310R will feature a single-cylinder 313cc engine that is liquid-cooled and fuel injected. The engine puts out 34 BHP power and 28 Nm torque through a 6-speed gearbox. The G310R was expected to be launched in India by September/ October, but fresh news suggest that the TVS Akula 310 or TVS Apache 300 will become the flagship model for TVS in India and will be a derived version from the G310R.
There is a lot of information available on the BMW G310R but details of the production version of the TVS Akula 310/ TVS Apache 300 are very scant. As of now the BMW G310R is being produced for exports to the European market where it would be positioned as an entry-level bike for newer riders and female riders.
The TVS Akula 310 was first showcased at the Auto Expo earlier this year and it was revealed that this bike would use the same power-train as the BMW G310R. It is possible that TVS will likely name the Akula as the Apache 300 to make the bike more recognisable by associating it with the familiar Apache brand. To deal with the fuel quality in India and to keep the power usable, the 313cc motor is likely to be down on power by 2-3 horses or so.
The production version of the TVS Akula 310/ TVS Apache 300 might not be as edgy and slim as the concept. The TVS Akula 310/ TVS Apache 300 will be much heavier and may lose some of the more racy features such as the ram air induction featured on the concept. It would be a sporty bike that is still very usable in the city and not be an aggressive track machine like KTM’s RC series. TVS will likely launch the bike as planned in November and the on-road price is expected to be INR. 1.9 – 2.2 lakh.
