The BMW R nineT Roadster is a rather unique offering from the technologically advanced BMW Motorrad. The BMW R nineT is a colourful and charismatic café racer in the world of sensible and monochrome offerings from BMW. However, the success of the motorcycle has resulted in the Bavarian company garnishing it with some more sizzle and seasoning to make it even better.
The new BMW R nineT scrambler now features an air-cooled, flat-twin boxer engine with a displacement of 1170 cc. The classic BMW boxer layout delivers a power output of 110 hp at 7750 rpm. The maximum torque of 116 Nm comes in at 6000 rpm. A new engine mapping setting and a new fuel system including a carbon canister have been put in place to make sure the BMW R nineT meets the requirements of the EURO4 emission norms.
The BMW R nineT is designed to be a modular platform for owners to customise the motorcycle to their own unique signature style. Rather than go to a custom builder or even turn to the aftermarket for parts, owners of the BMW R nineT can turn to BMW’s well-stocked accessory catalogue to turn their bike into their dream bike. Given the modular design of the bike, it won’t take too much effort for owners to customise their bikes themselves. The passenger frame can be dismounted, thereby allowing the R nineT Scrambler to be used either by two people or by the rider on their own.
The new BMW Scrambler is fitted with light cast alloy wheels. A large 19-inch front wheel with a 120/70-19 tyre at the front and a 170/60-17 tyre at the rear to keep the scrambler rolling. ABS is standard and twin disks with 4-piston calipers handle braking at the front, with steel braided brake lines feeding the 320 mm brake discs at the front. At the rear, a 265 mm rotor with a 2-piston floating caliper keeps the bike in check. Telescopic front forks and a para lever rear suspension help soak up the bumps. A high mount twin exhaust completes the stylish look of the bike. Comfortable and upright ergonomics help the rider tackle long rides on the scrambler with ease.
